   After a few practice setups and more importantly, take downs, I tested this tent (2P) camping this past weekend. IT does indeed go up very quickly and one could argue that is goes down just about as fast. However, because I was camping with others that made me show them how easy it was a few times it may have lost its speed advantage over other tents. People find it amazing and want to see it. The test also included it in both some mild wind and some rain. It handled both very well and did not leak a drop! The issues others have pointed out about the door being inset when open and water getting in that way are indeed true, but minor. Many tents get wet around the door in the rain as folks enter and exit. You just wipe it up. I might rig a tiny fly extension for it to prevent this when using it in the future. All of my other tents that get used frequently are Sierra Designs, two of which are four season tents. Is this one as good as those? No, no it is not. In “real weather,” or backpacking I’d use the Sierra Designs tents. But they take far more effort and time to setup and take down. In good weather the Pop Up has them beat! I also use a Sierra Designs Baffin Bivy and though not a tent, it is used for speed, i.e set up and take down camp fast. It is still faster than the Coleman Popup, but not by a lot and the Pop Up is certainly more comfortable and less of an issue in rain. Others have pointed out issues taking the tent down and folding it up, even broken polls while doing this. I did not have any issue. I watched the YouTube videos and made a point of being gentle. I practiced a lot. I can fold it up in well under a minute. I have folded it up maybe 40 times without any poll issues or failures. To those having issues, practice, never force it and watch the you tube videos of the folks who know how to do it. It is really, really, easy. Others have pointed out the door zipper can be difficult to zip. This is also true and more so when the tent is staked out. It is not a one handed operation, but to be just, on all three of my Sierra Designs tents, it is a two handed operation also, and mostly where the door corves when they are put up tight. The Coleman was the same, though it is slightly harder to zip up. I’d ding it for that, but I got used to it pretty fast. It is another thing where being gentle with it will have rewards. Some have pointed out the cloth floor as an issue. Though, many tents have fabric flows this one seems thin and may be a vulnerable spot. I used a small tarp under It (I use fitted ground cloths with my other tents). I sized the tarp so most of the water running off the tent hit dirt and not the tarp (so the water does not go under the tent). I did not have any problems. Finally, it comes down to how many stars. I could easily say my Sierra Designs, tents are 5 stars and therefore this must be something far less. However, the Sierra Designs tents cost three to five times as much! The ease of setup earns this tent a great score. For the price this Coleman Popup is 100% worth it. Five stars.

   I own both this and an Eackrola pop-up tent. They work exactly the same way but have some noticeable differences. Price: about the same Air flow: I have mixed feelings about both tents – Coleman has large, mesh openings at the top, allowing for heat to be whisked away and for you to have a nice view of the sky. The lower part of the tent however, has ZERO air flow and could result in high temperatures during hot days in California – Eackrola has large, mesh door openings at the front and back, allowing for a breeze to flow through (if tent is oriented correctly). But, because the top portion is not mesh, you can’t see the sky as easily as with the Coleman. Benefit of this is that it is likely more rain proof, but could also build up condensation along the roof Pockets: Coleman has a large, mesh pocket to store items. The Eackrola has a small one on the side. Rain: I feel that the Eackrola, due to the front and back door being mesh all the way through, rain water could potentially enter the tent. However, a sprinkler test resulted in the tent staying surprisingly dry. Perhaps it wouldn’t withstand a rainstorm, but these pop up tents aren’t designed for that (or snow) anyway. Deployment: Both deploy quickly. Throw into the air and unfold. Stake the tent and guy lines down to secure against wind. Be sure to purchase a tarp that’s slightly smaller than the tent floor to help keep water from pooling and most importantly: to keep any sharp objects from puncturing the tent floor. Packing away: They both fold away the same way. Coleman has a nice video on YouTube to show how. The tent also has some pictures printed onto the carry case, though that’s hard to follow. I use a modified technique from Coleman’s that works very well. It involves putting the tent in-between your legs before folding the top part down and inward like a crashing wave. I’ll try to illustrate that in the photos, but you should find the Coleman Pop Up Tent video on YouTube and practice. The Eackrola does not provide any instructions. Ultimately, it was a toss-up between both tents, and I decided to give the Coleman to my brother. The Eackrola slightly won me over with the large, mesh doors for better cooling, though my brother said he felt comfortably fine in the Coleman.

   This has been my son’s boyscout tent for over four years now and it honestly is an amazing tent. He used it this month and we realized at almost 6’ tall and 220lbs now, it’s a bit too small these days, so we’ve decided to buy the next size up. This one will be lovingly gifted to a cubbie in need. Granted, he only used it probably 2-3x a year so I can’t exactly say how it would hold up to heavy use, but for his needs it’s been fantastic. Every spring we set it up and coat it with waterproofer and use seam seal and Its never leaked.

   Used this for an overnight trip where I knew I’d arrive at night. So this was great for set up, you take it out of the pouch, and it immediately expands. I used this on top of a waterproof tarp** protecting the tent from the mud and grass. So I don’t know if that may have affected my user experience but for two ppl who don’t camp allot and want to use it at sites where you drive up to the area your staying it I liked it allot. Good: it’s really easy to set up. It has a mesh top, covered by a “rain fly” looking cover so you can see stars at night. Had enough room and head space that my partner and I could set up both our sleeping pads and lay out our couples sleeping bag without bumping each other too much. I’m 5ft 115lb and he is 5ft 150lb. If you are a big person this would definitely be a one person tent. For a little kids tent in the back yard, this is great. The door is double paneled with an inner mesh zip though so that is cool. We also liked that inside were pouches to put things in. Bad: it did let water gather inside. We were camping on grass so it got really dewy. Inside the tent you could touch the sides and feel moitsure. On one side of the tent a significant amount of water did gather from the dew. This could just be my tent but for a tent that says it can handle a bit of rain, seeing this made me dubious of that. Also a big con is if you take off the rain fly to see the stars at night you have to get out again and put the rain fly back on. Unless you like being blinded by the sunrise or the surprise of seeing ppl stare at you while you were sleeping, this is a big con for me. I also noticed the tent doesn’t really shade you from sunlight too much so if you need absolute darkness to sleep, bring an eye mask so the sunrise doesn’t wake you. Also watch the tutorial on how to pack this baby, BEFORE YOU GO, and try it multiple times BEFORE YOU GO. DONT BE GIJOE, ABD THINK YOU CAN DO IT. it’s easy but really tricky and if you look at the pictures on the pack on how to… It’s missing the biggest step on how to fold it down. It folds flat and can be stored under a bed nicely, but has the circumference of a bean bag chair or a large, donut pool floaty. In short if you can’t put Ikea furniture together and need tons of space or want to pack your whole family in it, this isn’t for you. If you need to set up quickly, are a genius origami fan and have a car, this is a really cool tent to use in summer.

   This is an OK tent. It did not leak for me when it was raining but, water will collect above the door and pour inside when opening to get out. That is a big pain because of the shape of the tent it pours right on you when getting out. The zippers also seem to get caught on the rain cover over the zippers. I wish it had something on the inside top of the tent to hang stuff from, I like putting up string lights so I can use them at night.

    This tent can do more than a kids’ backyard summer camp out. Used in winter, -5 C, no wind. For just 1 person. Pitched on packed snow, with an messy mix of snow and sleet happening. The tent was covered in a thin layer of ice the next morning. Performed very well. No precipitation got in, and there was no condensation or dampness in the tent. I used a groundsheet and just the 2 integrated guy lines, no other stakeouts. Tent was solid. It has a bathtub floor btw which will help in soggy conditions. The only downside is the lack of any kind of entry protection. Snow fell in from the door every time it was opened. These are small tents so what comes in goes everywhere. Would be unmanageable with 2 people. Addition of an isolated and floored vestibule area would make this tent truly amazing.
