   I ordered these replacement hinges on 8/5/24 with a bit of trepidation, given prior colemandiscount.com consumer reviews from a year or two back, including “Do not fit 5286B cooler By MarkJ in the United States on March 28, 2023”, and “Sort of works on older models 5286B, 5296, 5248 By Bubba in the United States on April 22, 2022”. It appears that since the time when these prior reviews were written, Coleman has updated the hinges, because I can attest that they do indeed fit perfectly in place of the failing plastic hinges that originally came with my Coleman Cooler 5286B, 5296, 5248. They required no alteration or adjustment. I did decide to use the original screws that came with my Coleman Cooler, as they are quite a bit more robust than the smaller screws which accompany the replacement plastic hinges. I am posting photos showing the product numbers on the bottom of my Coleman Cooler (5286B, 5296, 5248), as well as the newly installed replacement hinges, with the original hinges placed alongside, to show the equivalent dimensions. I am giving five stars for this now easy fix, which restored the usefulness and function of my otherwise perfectly good cooler. Thank you Coleman and colemandiscount.com!

   It gets 4 stars for doing what it’s supposed to do and a 1 star knock for value. It’s 2 pieces of moulded plastic after all. One more replacement of a broken part (drain plug in this instance) and I might as well spend the money on another cooler. Seriously, they’re clearly designed to fail in some aspect, within a couple of years of purchase. I’ve owned many coolers over the years and I’ve had numerous broken parts from handles that came off to broken handles to cracked interiors to broken hinges to broken drain plugs…….all after normal, seasonal use. It’s ridiculous that we’re re here on colemandiscount.com, looking for replacement pieces just to cobble these expensive pieces of plastic back together. Those minor listed repairs (hinges and drain plug) end up costing a full 25% of the price of a new cooler or almost 70% of the cost of just getting a similar used one on FB Marketplace. At any rate, these hinges don’t quite match the photos in the listings but if they work and keep me on the road a few more years, I won’t ding them for that. Your mileage may vary.

   Please update the description to include the list of 22 compatible coolers as shown on the package (see photo). Q&A has misleading information stating they are compatible on all models except Extreme which is NOT true. The description should list the 22 compatible models and a photo of the rear of the package that includes where to located the model number on the bottom of the cooler. This does NOT fit the polylite 68, model 5294A. The correct replacement hinges for a polylite 68 blue cooler is Coleman part number 3000005307 as found on coleman.com Incomplete descriptions, like this one, result in easily avoidable returns which are a huge waste of everyone’s resources. My solution? Found scrap seat belt webbing and installed under broken hinges to prevent screw heads pulling through webbing. Stop feeding the beast. Sub-standard & inferior product materials at beyond premium pricing. Product is worth $2 retail. At the rate they fail, should sell them in bulk (dozen) at this price. Inspiration came from Unhiged Inc, selling ones made from fire hose material. Neither the webbing or fire hose material will fatigue crack and fail like the OEM hard plastic ones.

    Our daughter has had this old cooler on wheels for years. When the hinges broke she was going to toss it. We used it here in NWFL to protect her lawn sprinkler pipes wile lid was detached, lol. All the houses with sprinklers have them and have to protect them when we get a freeze so I used this old cooler on top a couple moving blankets. Hey it’s insulated right!     Lucky fishing trip cooler is going fishing again. I can afford a new cooler but I made a sandwich tray and 48 perfect size for a day party boat trip and I had many a good trip with this cooler. Hopefully it will now continue to bring home many more cod and haddock for supper and freezer.
