Installed in about 5 minutes following a YouTube how to video, not very hard at all as long as your somewhat savvy with using your hands & you have basic tools & materials on hand such as need needle nose pliers & motor oil for lubrication (Very important) or else you’ll be having to swap out the seal often. The pump itself is built solid & is a perfect fit so long as your Coleman product is compatible, just check the description for compatible part numbers. I’m very satisfied with this replacement pump!!

I have a Coleman stove model 424 for which I was no longer able to pressurize the tank. I disassembled the pump and guessed that the rubber plunger had finally gone bad (it’s fairly stiff and should be soft and pliable). I’ve had this stove for 20+ years and cooked hundreds of meals. It’s been to barter fairs, concerts, camping, and Burning Man many times (way back when the Burn was actually cool and hardcore). The sentimental value of the stove is much greater than the price of buying a new stove. This replacement pump worked 100% and was easy to install. Now, I know to oil the plunger on occasion. Looking forward to my next camping trip!

Made the mistake of using a windscreen too tightly around a large pot and the heat melted my old pump assembly. I did note I bought the wrong pump for the 440 but the only difference was the length of the pump stem… and it works perfectly. Cannot fault the product for that. in a pinch this will work on the duel fuel 440 if you don’t mind the pump sticking up a bit.

Well it works, but it’s not the same length plunger as my original. I have a model 229 lantern with a shorter plunger so this replacement this will extends out about an inch further than the original one. The description said it was the proper part to replace a 229. I guess you could say that because it does work. But it certainly not the same as the original. My guess is it would fit properly in a larger Coleman.

The old pump finally failed after 50 years. The new pump works as expected so my lantern is now functional again.

Just replaced my old pump last night on my newer Coleman Dual Fuel stove. Comparing the old and new parts, I noticed that the old pump cup had gotten stiff and cracked over time (I live in AZ, and the stove sits in the garage during our brutal Summers). The new one is soft and pliable, which helped me understand why the old one didn’t work and the new one does.
As other commenters have pointed out, this is set up by default for the newer plastic mount, which my stove/tank has. So there’s no real pump tweaking required to replace newer Coleman devices–just twist out the old one and twist this one in. I did have trouble getting the plastic tabs to seat into the metal slots, so I used some channel lock pliers to finish the job.
I did also use 3-in-1 oil on the pump cup before installing it. Also, used some gauze pads and some ball bearings and some Quaker State antifreeze. You didn’t need those things, you say? What? Do you need a refresher course?

It works. Not much else to say. Just have needle nose pliers at the ready. The little push on washer is a bear to get off and back on.

I bought this pump kit to repair my old Coleman stove (Model 413), whose pump went bad. The kit can repair older stoves (with metal pump cap) or newer ones (with plastic cap), but comes configured for the newer stoves. To convert it for older stoves, you have to remove a spring clip beneath the rubber plunger. This allows you to slide the parts off the shaft and replace the plastic cap with a metal one and coil spring (included). Removal of the spring clip requires a good pair of needle-nosed pliers and some care to avoid damage to the plunger. Once the clip is off, re-assembly is simple. A new spring clip is included in the kit, which is good, because you’ll probably bend the original one beyond reuse. If you have a newer stove, you can throw away the conversion parts and use the pump as packaged.
